U.S. inspection lanes at the Blue Water Bridge will be closed perioidically over the next 30 days for construction being performed by the Customs and Border Protection agency (CBP). The CBP is installing new technology in lanes 2-5 which integrates their license plate readers with new RFID documentation readers so they can more quickly identify travelers.
The work will be performed during the weekday but CBP maintains it will not increase delays in crossing the border. CBP also states it will open all of the lanes for the very heavy Victoria Day and Memorial Day holiday travel weekends. The work is scheduled to be completed by June 13, 2011.
