Helpful Travel Calculators & Conversions

Here is the information you need to convert Canadian metric measurements to U.S. measurements – and the other way around.

Gasoline – United States versus Canada

Gas in Canada is sold in liters while the U.S. uses gallons.

  • 1 U.S. gallon is about 3.78 liters
  • 50 liters of Canadian Gasoline = about 13.2 U.S. gallons

Highway Distance in the U.S. and Canada

Canada measures roadway distance in kilometers, while the United States uses miles.

  • 1 mile = 1.6 km
  • 50 miles = 80 km
  • 100 miles = 160 km
  • 1 km = .6 mile
  • 50 km = 31 miles
  • 100 km = 62 miles

How to Convert Temperature

The United States uses the Fahrenheit scale, while Canada uses the Centigrade scale for temperature measurement. Doing a conversion between the two is not as easy as for other measurements.

  • To convert metric Celsius degrees to Fahrenheit you multiply the Centigrade number by 1.8 and then add 32 to the result.
  • To convert Fahrenheit to Centigrade you begin by subtracting 32 from the Fahrenheit number, then multiplying the result by the fraction 5/9.
